About The Manual
Apprenticeship support shouldn’t stop once a placement is secured.
The real learning starts on site, and that’s where a lot of young people struggle, not because they can’t do the work, but because nobody’s told them how to show up, communicate, handle money, or deal with the realities of working life.
Colleges teach the technical side. Nobody formally teaches the rest.
That’s why we created the Fix Radio Foundation Apprentice Manual. 100 pages of straight-talking, practical advice written in collaboration with Fix Radio presenters who work on site every day and know the industry first-hand.
No corporate jargon, no classroom theory. Just the kind of honest guidance a good mentor would give.
Thanks to the generous support of Toupret & Steel Blue, the first 500 copies are available free of charge to anyone thinking of taking on an apprentice.

The Apprentice Manual
I think all of the subjects in the book are on point. I really do feel that if you have to explain some of the points to the detail that you have them in there. These guys are just not going to make it in life. the problem is we are pampering too much To the idiots of this world. I know this sounds harsh. You just have to have some wherewithal to get on in this life and at work. To be absolutely honest this book should not be needed. Yes there are great pointers but you should not need to be distributing a book like this. However I will be using some of the points in here to discuss with my apprentices. But I really expect them not to have to be told. Things like turn up on time. Plan ahead, respect, Clarify what they're being asked. This is all common sense. Why do we have to actually put it in writing to the kids of today.
Great book with no nonsense advice and `why it matters` details. Gives clear details and also has sections for tracking and reflection. Ideal for all apprentices.
I got this for my apprentice to help guide them through some of the basics that we all too easily forget need to be taught, im very happy with it as is my apprentice who is slowly working their way through the book.
Great
